Kelowna Rockets take first of two WHL games in Prince George heading into Saturday night's tilt

Feb. 3, 2012 - Prince George, BC

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince George Cougars 2-1 on Friday night, winning their fourth straight road game in the first of a Western Hockey League double-header in Prince George.

Shane McColgan scored his 14th goal of the season in the third period, snapping a 1-1 tie on assists from Damon Severson and Zach Franko.

Cody Chikie also scored for the Rockets, opening the scoring with his 13th.

Adam Brown was named first star in the game, allowing just a single goal, from the Cougars' Spencer Asuchak. Brown faced 27 Cougars shots.

Rockets coach Dan Lambert said the team has to credit Brown for the win.

"We were pretty flat I thought," said Lambert, on the AM 1150 post game show. "Thank goodness Brownie came to play tonight because it could have been a different story. We got the two points and were pleased with that but we were pretty flat. Give them credit. They are a hard team to play against."

The win moved Kelowna to 23-23-2-4. They are solidly in sixth place in the WHL BC Division.

Kelowna played without Prince George native Brett Bulmer, who was too sick to play in the game.

The two teams meet again Saturday night at the CN Centre in Prince George.
