Feb. 7, 2013 - Kelowna, BC

The Kelowna Rockets and Portland Winterhawks will play twice this weekend at Prospera Place, in a much-anticipated weekend double-header between two of the top teams in the Western Hockey League.

The Rockets (40-11-3-1) and Winterhawks (43-8-1-2) will play Friday and Saturday night's in Kelowna with both teams coming off Wednesday night losses, and with a history of playoff battles the past two seasons.

"It's been on our minds probably for the past month or so, we've been looking forward to this," Rockets forward Carter Rigby told the Kelowna Capital News. "They spanked us four straight in the playoffs last year, so it's a chance to prove ourselves against them. These are two big games for us."

In fact, the Rockets and Winterhawks have met in the playoffs the past two seasons, with the Hawks eliminating Kelowna in a memorable series in 10-11 as well. The playoff history has created an intense rivalry, with nine current Rockets roster players having been involved in both playoff meetings.

But this week in Kelowna the focus from fans has been on the weekend double-header with Portland. The web site www.welcometokelowna.com has started a White Out campaign and is asking fans to wear white to the games.

Even the teams appeared to be looking ahead to the weekend as both clubs lost on Wednesday, setting up what should be a great weekend of hockey at Prospera Place.

Tickets are available for both games.
